Explore The Exe

The Exe Cycle Trail is an exceptionally beautiful ride along both sides of the Exe Estuary and is easily one of the best cycle routes in the country.

Clocking in at over 22 miles, the traffic free, mostly level trail hugs the river for most of its length and takes you right around the Exe Estuary. From Dawlish towards Exeter and back down to Exmouth, the trail passes through the pretty villages of Starcross, Topsham and Lympstone, as well as the vibrant Exeter Quayside.

Offering breath-taking expansive views out over the water, you won’t be short of photo opportunities that show off the Devon landscape in all its splendour. If you’re in need of refreshment, you’ll find an array of excellent pubs that are the perfect pit stop for lunch or pack up a picnic and stop off to give yourself a chance to soak in the stunning views.

The estuary is also surrounded by marshes and nature reserves making it ideal for a spot of birdwatching, so make sure you pack the binoculars. Providing a year-round heaven for thousands of birds, keep a look out for lapwings, redshanks and Cetti’s warblers as you pass.

Cofton to Dawlish Warren Beach

Cycle time: 50 mins

Distance: 7 miles

Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun on the beach, splash around in the sea or discover the wildlife of the nature reserve, this short round trip is the perfect way to get to the golden sands of Dawlish Warren. Take in the sights of Cockwood harbour on the way and enjoy the day at this spectacular award-winning Blue Flag beach and surrounding sand dunes.

Cofton to Exeter Quay

Cycle time: 2hrs 15

Distance: 21 miles

With its rich and varied history, there’s so much to the explore and enjoy on the Quayside – and the journey there along the Exe estuary isn’t bad either. The vibrant quay is a great place to stop and refresh at one of the many bars or cafes for spot of people watching or explore the unique and independent shops before heading back the way you came.

  • Enjoy expansive views over the water
  • Exminster nature reserve is a great place to stop for some wildlife watching
  • Stop for a refreshing drink at one of the many bars or cafes at Exeter Quay for some people watching

Cofton to The Turf

Cycle time: 1hr

Distance: 9 miles

Only accessible by foot, bike or boat, it’s time to ditch the car keys and take a relaxing leisurely ride along the Exe Estuary and stop off for a well deserved lunch. With beautiful panoramic views out over the water, this Grade II listed pub serves up traditional food just as good as the views.

Highlights:

  • Ride through the picturesque old harbour village of Cockwood
  • Soak up the views over Powderham Castle and spot the deer on the estate
  • Lookout for the wildlife that call the estuary and surrounding marshes home
  • Stop for lunch at the Grade II list Turf pub

Cofton To Exmouth & Starcross Ferry

Cycle time: 2hrs 40

Distance: 26 miles

Don’t be put off by the length of this route, our e-bikes will help you make short work of the miles with minimal effort and we guarantee that it will be worth it. The Exe Cycle trail on both sides of the estuary cycling up to Exeter Quay and then down to Exmouth before catching the ferry across the river to Starcross and back to Cofton. Make sure you keep your camera handy as you’ll find plenty of scenic spots to add to your instagram.

Chic Electric Bike

Our Chic electric bike is designed for all riders who need a smaller frame. It has a classic low step through design, and is simply beautiful and compact.

You will find this super comfortable to ride as it has a soft saddle, an adjustable handle bar stem for perfect ride position, and is made from lightweight aluminium alloy.

The Chic will do 30 plus miles per full charge at the highest speed setting. Your range will increase dramatically on the lower eco levels.

Avatar Electric Bike

Avatar

The Avatar electric bike is a robust model. It can handle the rugged terrain or work as a nippy city bike. It comes in step over design to make getting on and off easy.

Made from lightweight aluminium alloy, the Avatar is super easy to ride, even before engaging the motor.

The Avatar will do 45 plus miles per full charge at the highest speed setting. Your range will increase dramatically on the lower eco levels.
