Cofton Summer Treasure Hunt

The Search for Great Britain’s Best Riddle Breaker

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to become Britain’s best riddle breaker? The team here at Cofton are passionate about puzzles, so we’ve come together to create what we think is Britain’s most challenging series of riddles for you to crack.

Our quest; to find Great Britain’s Best Riddle Breaker – and your challenge (should you wish to accept it) is to solve our riddles for some of the UK’s most famous cities and destinations, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Cardiff… and of course, our glorious corner of Devon too!

Listed below you will find five riddles for each destination, and the answers to each of these riddles in that destination will (together) give you a clue to a lesser-known hidden gem in that place. To give you an example, if the answers for the London riddles were ‘pod’, ‘wheel’ and ‘Millennium’, then the secret destination might be the London Eye. However, the actual riddles are a lot harder to crack than that!

What we want you to do is figure out each of the five riddles for each destination below and then use the answers to those riddles to work out which hidden location we are referring to in each destination. It’ll be somewhere a little off the beaten tracks in that place, rather than its most well-known landmark. However, we’re not releasing all the riddles at once; to keep it interesting, every Friday between 26th August and 23rd September we will update this page with one new riddle for each destination.

Crack the riddle for a chance to win a summer holiday

The riddles are super tricky. In fact, we’re so confident that you’ll find our riddles below (nearly) impossible to crack that we’re willing to give away some free holidays and prizes to those of you who come up trumps:

Grand Prize Draw – Everyone who submits a correct hidden gem destination for at least one city will be entered into a prize draw to win a one-week holiday in a luxury dog-friendly lodge (for up to four people and 2 dogs) at Cofton Holidays for use during peak summer season in 2023.

Great Britain’s Best Riddle Breaker – we’ll give the person who is first to submit all the hidden gem destinations for all the locations the official title of ‘Great Britain’s Best Riddle Breaker’ and a £250 holiday voucher for use at Cofton Holidays.

Your city or county’s best Riddler – we’ll give the person who is first to submit the hidden gem destination for their city or county the title of the best Riddle Breaker in their area and a Cofton goody bag. You need to be a resident of the relevant area to be in for a chance of winning this prize.

Even better, you can also take a photograph of yourself in one of the correct ‘hidden gem’ destinations and then publicly post that photograph on social media to be in with a chance of winning a prize. If you send us the link to that public post with your entry, we’ll judge these photographs, and we will give the person who publicly posts the photograph we like the most a £250 holiday voucher for use at Cofton Holidays.

Entry for the competition opens on Friday 26th August and closes on Tuesday 18th October 2022; you’ll find a form to submit your answers at the bottom of this page.

Click your region from the list below and crack the riddles to reveal 5 clues that point to a final location in that area. A new riddle will be released each week so make sure you keep checking back to get the next clue.
